The 17-metre-high Siegesturm (Victory Tower) in the north of Bayreuth offers a wonderful view over the town and is easy to reach on foot.

Please note: the tower is not always open.

The months in which you can climb it depend on the weather: as a rule, it opens in spring as soon as it is certain that there will be no more snow or frost, and it closes in autumn/winter as soon as the first snow falls (during the months it is open, it can be climbed around the clock).

If you are not quite sure whether the tower is open, feel free to contact our Tourist Information in advance at or on 0921/88588.

Getting to the tower

The Siegesturm can only be reached on foot via a lovely woodland path. Park your car in the car parks above the Festspielhaus, or take bus line 305, get off at “Am Festspielhaus” and walk past the Ristorante „Zur Bürgerreuth“ towards the woods.

It is best to follow the signs for the Markgrafenweg trail (blue horizontal bar on a white background). Once in the woods, walk up the gravel path. Shortly before the top of the hill, a woodland path branches off to the left.

Follow this path steadily uphill. You will already catch glimpses of the Siegesturm through the trees. Once you have reached the tower and climbed its 97 steps, a magnificent view over the town and the region opens up before you. You can make out the Festspielhaus, the towers of Bayreuth’s churches and the town centre. Can you also spot the motorway and the railway station?

In good weather, you can even see as far as the Fichtelgebirge and Franconian Switzerland.
