Insider Hiking Tip: Children’s Adventure Trail near Mengersdorf

People from Bayreuth share their favourite walks with us. Today’s tip comes from Nadine Badewitz and is perfect for a short hike with children:

“I absolutely love walking the children’s adventure trail near Mengersdorf with my little daughter (3½).
You can park at the Gutshof Mengersdorf estate. From there the path leads into the forest.
The trail, which is about one kilometre long, is also easy to manage with a pushchair (as long as it is dry and not muddy).
Along the way, information boards tell the story of Jakob the shepherd, who has to battle his way through the dangerous enchanted forest.
He gets help from the little wooden man, and at the end the princess is waiting for him.
The children can act out some of the tasks Jakob has to master in the enchanted forest.
For example, there is a small barefoot path, a wobbly bridge and a slide tower.
The trail takes around 30 minutes and is ideal even for the very youngest.
If you keep your eyes peeled, you will also spot the little wooden man in the forest.
If you fancy a little more, drive on afterwards to the Neubürg car park near Plösen/Gollenbach.
After a short climb, a fantastic view, a sculpture exhibition and a truly wonderful picnic spot await you.”
