Deutsches Freimaurermuseum - Freimaurerführung

The Freemasons tour explores the visible and invisible traces that famous Freemasons have left behind in Bayreuth.

The co-founder of the lodge, the master builder Carl Philipp Christian von Gontard, left behind the two stately palais above the Schlossterrassen as visible signs of his work. Today they are known as the Gontardhäuser and lie on the route of the tour.

You will also learn more about numerous other Freemasons who are commemorated in street names: Feustelstraße, Ellrodtweg, Fichtestraße and Gottfried-Semper-Weg. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, too, left his mark on Bayreuth through his cousin Maria Anna Thekla Mozart, who became known as the “Bäsle” through their famous correspondence: until her death in 1841, the “Bäsle” lived in the house of the former post office in Friedrichstraße.
