The story of Fantaisie Palace in Donndorf begins in 1761, when Margrave Friedrich of Brandenburg-Bayreuth started building a new summer retreat. The many impressions from his journey to Italy served as his inspiration for the building. After Friedrich’s death, his only daughter Friederike Sophie inherited the estate. She redesigned it according to her personal wishes and completed the property in 1763.

A large park surrounds Fantaisie Palace. Within it you can find stylistic phases from the 18th and 19th centuries, including Rococo, Sentimentalism and Historicism. Glorious paths wind through ancient rows of trees, a small pond invites you to watch the wildlife, and a beech-hedge labyrinth offers ever new views of the palace and into the park.

A café in the palace invites you to linger and enjoy. Treat yourself to delicious cakes, coffee and ice cream!
There is plenty for younger visitors to discover, too. With the Actionbound app “Dem Schatz der Markgrafen auf der Spur” (“On the trail of the margraves’ treasure”) you can explore the past and present of the palace and park in a playful way (interactive smartphone rally).
