Bayreuth has plenty to offer children in spring. Here you will find ideas for a spring season in Bayreuth.

Spring is slowly arriving. The sun is shining more again, the birds are already chirping away and the plants are starting to bloom. We feel the urge to spend more time outdoors again, and we have put together lots of ideas for doing just that. Look forward to unforgettable spring moments in Bayreuth!

1. Discover flowers and gardens

Once again, the municipal parks department has done a superb job, planting the town’s many flowerbeds with gorgeous flowers and perennials. Head out and discover the wonderful parks and green spaces in and around Bayreuth. Stroll along the beautifully laid-out paths and watch nature awaken from its winter sleep. Look out for the first buds on the trees and shrubs and listen to the cheerful birdsong. Why not take photos to send to your friends or post on your social media channels with #visitbayreuth? Our insider tip: in spring, the “front garden” of Haus Wahnfried is carpeted with crocuses. A wonderful spring moment!

2. Spring moment: bake Easter bread

Do you also know that wonderful smell of yeast baking wafting through the whole house? At Easter time, it is a typical custom to bake Easter bread and enjoy it still warm from the oven. On its own, with jam or with butter – always a treat!

3. Enjoy your first ice cream of spring

The spring sun is shining and the air is slowly warming up. Now is exactly the right time to enjoy your first ice cream at your favourite ice-cream parlour. Will it be classic vanilla and chocolate, or something more exotic like mango or passion fruit? With so many ice-cream parlours in the pedestrian zone, there is something for every taste. You can also take an ice cream to go, stroll leisurely through the town centre, browse the shop windows with their spring outfits, gather some inspiration or set your sights on a purchase.

4. Take a themed city tour

Have you heard about our many themed city tours? No? Then for another great spring moment, you should definitely join one and get to know the town from a new angle. In spring temperatures and sunshine, the tours with Margravine Wilhelmine, a culinary tour or tours on Richard Wagner, famous women of Bayreuth or art in public spaces are even more fun.

5. Take your first bike ride of the year through Bayreuth and the surrounding area

Get your bike out of the cellar or garage and give it a good once-over. Prepared like this, you can set off on your first bike ride of the year and explore the signs of spring along the way. Need some route inspiration? At our Tourist Information, you will receive plenty of route suggestions for every level of ability. There are beginners’ routes that children can manage too, longer routes without many climbs, but also some that will certainly make you sweat and wake up your spirits after the winter.

6. Easter fountain trip through Franconian Switzerland

Easter is not far away either, and many volunteers lovingly decorate the fountains in the villages of Franconian Switzerland in their own colourful ways. An absolute spring moment for the eyes. Set off on an excursion to the villages and discover the many lovingly decorated fountains. In around 200 places in Franconian Switzerland, from Holy Week until two weeks after Easter, they are hung with thousands of brightly painted eggshells, flowers, wreaths and garlands. A true riot of colour for onlookers. The custom originates above all in the importance of water from the few and far between wells as a life-giving element for the dry plateau of the Franconian Jura.

Easter water was also said to have magical powers. For example, children baptised at Easter with freshly blessed water were supposed to become especially clever. According to popular belief, drinking Easter water also protected against illness, and anyone who sprinkled Easter water in their own house kept all kinds of vermin away. 8. A trip to see the cherry blossom – a special spring moment

It is not only the Easter fountains of Franconian Switzerland that are an experience – the cherry blossom is something very special too. Trees in glorious white and pale pink bloom, giving off a delicate fragrance, invite you on a spring walk. Once you have had your fill of this idyll, visit one of the many rustic inns or Franconian beer cellars and round off your outing with a hearty Brotzeit (Franconian snack). 9. Pay a visit to the animals at Tierpark Röhrensee

Spring fever has also arrived at Tierpark Röhrensee (Röhrensee animal park). Many of the animals there are expecting young – or have they already had them? Why not take a little trip and find out? Perhaps you will spot pregnant goats, or little kangaroos peeping out of their mother’s pouch. In any case, you can take a leisurely walk around the lake, let the children run wild in the playground, or set off to pay a visit to the Ecological-Botanical Garden as well. It can now be reached more quickly via the new entrance at the Studentenwald.

11. Go to the weekly market and buy seedlings

Take a little time for this spring moment and stroll around Bayreuth’s weekly market. Alongside all kinds of regional produce, you can also buy seedlings for your garden or balcony there. There is nothing nicer than growing your own vegetables or fruit. When planting in spring sunshine, the anticipation of strawberries, tomatoes, cucumbers and other treats is especially great. There is also a large selection of flowers to bring extra colour to your balcony and garden.
