The mystical Druidenhain in Franconian Switzerland

Der Druidenhain. Im Hintergrund Wald, im Vordergrund ein Steinhaufen, mystisches Sonnenlicht.

Today's hiking tip takes you to the Druidenhain in the Wiesent valley in Franconian Switzerland, with its mystical-looking rock formations.

The destination of our hike is the Druidenhain (Druids’ Grove) near Wohlmannsgesees. Mystical-looking rock formations invite you to linger and take a deep breath.
The grove was presumably once used by the Celts for rituals, although this has not yet been proven. What is certain, however, is that there is a very special atmosphere here.

Our hike starts at the car park of the sports ground in Muggendorf, right on the Wiesent river. From there, we cross the main road and head up to the forest path.
The trail marker with the vertical blue bar on a white background leads straight into the forest. The beautiful forest path climbs steeply at first, and later leads past cherry trees and fields. You can already admire some beautiful rock formations on the way to the Druidenhain.

You reach the destination after around 45 minutes on foot. The path is also well suited to sure-footed children. Once there, it is a great place to climb and hide in the rock labyrinth. Take care when it is wet, as the rocks become slippery!

Tip for a bite to eat nearby: Restaurant Brückla in Muggendorf, delicious Croatian-Franconian food right on the Wiesent with a cosy beer garden.
