Alongside the Margravial Opera House, as well as Richard Wagner and his Festival Theatre, the Steingraeber piano manufactory is an important part of Bayreuth's musical culture.
History and tradition
The piano manufacturer Steingraeber, founded in 1852, is an integral part of Bayreuth’s musical tradition. For over 170 years, the company has been producing high-quality upright and grand pianos that are appreciated by musicians all over the world. The manufactory is known for its combination of traditional craftsmanship and modern techniques.
You can find out more about the interesting history of the piano maker on the Steingraeber website.
The Steingraeber House
The Steingraeber Haus in the magnificent Friedrichstraße is one of the few very well-preserved buildings from the Rococo period in Bayreuth. In the “Rococo Hall” is a special showpiece of the manufactory, the “Liszt grand piano”. Franz Liszt, probably one of the most famous piano virtuosos of all time, was a frequent guest in Bayreuth and also favoured playing on Steingraeber’s pianos.
Bayreuth and Liszt – that should still have a close connection:
