Suggestions for excursions in the surrounding area
The wildlife park is about 40 minutes by car from Bayreuth.
You can discover the native wildlife on the circular trail through the open-air animal enclosure.
The highlight: the elevated walkway directly above the lynx and wild boar. It runs three metres above the enclosures and opens up new and interesting perspectives. From several viewing platforms you can watch the wild boar swimming and the lynx climbing – some of the action takes place almost within reach of the walkway, so you can get really close.
This attraction in Franconian Switzerland (please note: only open irregularly in the winter season) is about 35 minutes by car from Bayreuth.
Accessible are:
- two runs of the summer toboggan run (red Frankenrodel and yellow Frankenbob)
- the SkyWalk and the Höhenerlebnis (quote from the website, retrieved on 29 January 2026: “Yes – the Skywalk and the Höhenerlebnis are accessible. Just let us know at the toboggan ticket desk when you arrive. We will then take you up comfortably in the lift.“)

“Naturgenuss mit Handycap” project – accessible tours
As part of the “Naturgenuss mit Handicap” (enjoying nature with a disability) project, the Franconian Switzerland – Frankenjura Nature Park has developed a network of paths that are suitable for wheelchair users. Incidentally, the project benefits not only wheelchair users but also people with less severe mobility impairments, families with pushchairs and older people with walking frames.
Low-barrier hiking in the Fichtelgebirge
From pushchairs to walking frames. From power hikers to guided tours for people with visual impairments. In the Fichtelgebirge there is a suitable hiking trail or footpath for everyone. So nothing stands in the way of an experience in the midst of our unique natural landscape.

Travel for All
The Bayreuth Tourist Information with the Bayreuth Shop has been assessed according to the criteria of the nationwide “Reisen für Alle” (Travel for All) certification scheme and is entitled to bear the “Barrierefreiheit geprüft” (accessibility checked) label.

Barrier-free EV charging points in Bayreuth
Barrier-free charging points are available for electric cars. As well as providing sufficient parking space, the controls of these charging points can be reached and used by wheelchair users.

Wheelmap
- Wheelmap.org was founded by Raúl Krauthausen, a wheelchair user from Berlin. It is a project of the Berlin-based non-profit organisation Sozialhelden
- Since 2010, public places throughout Germany and beyond have been rated for their physical accessibility on the Wheelmap platform
- Data is recorded via the app on your mobile phone
- Places in the surrounding area are displayed on your phone
- Anyone can take part and add data
- Since summer 2016, the City of Bayreuth has also been contributing data to Wheelmap. Around 500 places have already been recorded, and the number is growing steadily.
