The Teufelshöhle (Devil’s Cave) near Pottenstein is an experience for young and old and offers a glimpse into our history. (Distance from Bayreuth: 35 km)
The Teufelshöhle (Devil’s Cave) is the largest of around 1,000 caves in Franconian Switzerland. From April to early November, it can be visited on a guided tour. In about 45 minutes, you will learn everything important about how the cave was formed and its history. Beautiful stalactites and stalagmites growing from and towards the ceiling and a complete cave bear skeleton await you. It is an unforgettable experience for adults too! The cave is well developed, although around 400 steps have to be climbed on the tour. But the effort is worth it! Carefully designed lighting shows the thousands-of-years-old formations in an impressive light and leaves visitors amazed.
After the tour, you can stop for refreshments at the terrace café.
In addition to the regular tours, there is also a range of special offers.
Culture in an extraordinary setting? That is what “Kultur in der Teufelshöhle” (culture in the Devil’s Cave) and „Kinderkultur in der Teufelshöhle“ (culture for children) offer from May to October (the programme and advance ticket sales can be found at the Pottenstein tourist office). The varied programme ranges from cave concerts to theatre performances. There are also special tours, such as children’s tours (every first Friday of the month).
While in Pottenstein, you can also go on to the Erlebnisfelsen adventure park and enjoy more exciting adventures.
