Der Festspielpark in Bayreuth

Summer in Bayreuth is wonderful. Have a fantastic time here with our tips.

1. Spend a day at the Kreuzsteinbad

In summer in Bayreuth, the Kreuzsteinbad is an absolute “must do”. It is an open-air pool with a wave pool, slide, diving tower, swimmers’ pool and a toddlers’ area with a small slide. But the pool also has plenty to offer its guests out of the water: a large playground with a pirate ship, table tennis tables, volleyball and basketball courts and various sunny and shady sunbathing lawns. With all this on offer, there is something for everyone, and you can enjoy relaxing summer days with family or friends.

2. Make your own ice lollies

On hot days there is nothing better than cooling down with an ice lolly. Here we present a recipe that you can easily try out yourself at home.

3. Visit one of the wonderful beer gardens

One of the highlights on glorious summer days and balmy summer nights is a visit to the inviting beer gardens in and around Bayreuth. Tasty snacks and a cool drink or two – beer, a shandy (Radler) or a spritzer – make for a successful, relaxed evening for the whole family – what more could you want? Best of all, bring a few friends along, and if you are lucky, a band will even be playing to make your visit even sweeter.

4. Enjoy summer at a bathing lake

An open-air pool is not your thing and you would rather lie by a bathing lake? You can do that in the region too: in Trebgast and Marktschorgast there are idyllically situated bathing lakes with wonderfully cool water. Here you can enjoy a relaxing summer’s day. Small kiosks also satisfy the ice-cream cravings of guests big and small.

5. Go boating on the Röhrensee and then enjoy a cool drink on the lakeshore

Would you like to spend some leisurely time on the water? Then simply hire a rowing boat at the Röhrensee and set off. Drift on the water in the sunshine and enjoy the lapping of the waves. You can expect to cool off as soon as you get too close to the fountain. After your boat trip, you can stroll through the Tierpark Röhrensee animal park and admire the animals, try out the fitness equipment or have fun on the big playground. To round off your visit, you can stop at the Hanskaschper and enjoy the rest of the day at the beach bar.

6. Visit a strawberry field and whip up a strawberry treat

What could be nicer than nibbling strawberries in summer? Why not head out with friends or family and visit a strawberry field – near Neudrossenfeld, for example. There you can pick and nibble the red fruit to your heart’s content.

7. Take a climbing course in Franconian Switzerland

Into action? Then how about a climbing course in Franconian Switzerland? This region is one of the best-known climbing areas in Germany. There are routes for everyone – from beginners to pros! Regional climbing schools offer courses for every age and level. A must for all adventurers, with wonderful views over the romantic landscape!

8. Have fun at the water playground in the Wilhelminenaue

In the Wilhelminenaue, children can let off steam at the water playground. Besides spring rockers, a mud play area and sandy areas, there is also a pump that is perfect for splashing water around. Ideal for a hot summer’s day. To keep your strength up, it is a good idea to pack a picnic blanket and plenty of provisions. It is also exciting here for nature explorers: along the river you can observe lots of insects and aquatic creatures. If you want to let off even more steam, be sure to try the climbing net or take your bike round the dirt bike track.

9. Hike in the rocky Fichtelgebirge

Looking for a way to cool off without water? Then hike through the shady forests of the Fichtelgebirge and enjoy the pleasant peace and quiet of nature. If you do not shy away from walking uphill, you can enjoy sweeping views over the region once you reach the summit – and recover from the climb at the same time. For nature lovers, the crowning finale is of course a hearty meal. The surrounding inns treat visitors to delicacies from the region.

10. Practise concentration and accuracy with a round of mini golf

How about a little challenge within the family or among friends? Then off you go to the mini golf course. The pleasantly shady course in Bayreuth offers fun for young and old. Laughs are guaranteed when the ball flies or rolls anywhere except into the hole you were aiming for. After the game, you can reward yourselves with a delicious ice lolly.

11. Whizz down the mountain on a summer toboggan run

Whether in Pottenstein in Franconian Switzerland or in Bischofsgrün in the Fichtelgebirge – on both runs you can feel the wind in your face on the way down. On hot summer days, that means wonderful cooling off and huge fun!
