Here is an overview of your options for getting to Bayreuth:
Public transport to Bayreuth
A Regional-Express train runs daily every 30 minutes from Nuremberg main station to Bayreuth with only a few intermediate stops. Deutsche Bahn also operates a cross-border Inter-Regio-Express called the Franken-Sachsen-Express, which runs directly from Nuremberg to Bayreuth . For exact departure times, we recommend the VGN timetable.
Please note that, owing to dilapidated bridges, there is currently a rail replacement service, and the journey between Bayreuth and Nuremberg may take somewhat longer.
From Bamberg you can reach Bayreuth by regional train in under 1 hr 20 min, and from Lichtenfels in just under 1 hr.
Travelling by car
Travelling by car via the motorway network is also straightforward. Located directly on the major south-east route, the A9 Munich – Berlin, Bayreuth is easy to reach from many large German cities without major detours. And if you are coming from the west, you will also reach the Wagner city quickly and easily. Here the A70 from Werneck (near Würzburg) provides a good direct connection to Bayreuth.
Flights via Nuremberg Airport
Nuremberg also has an airport served by international flights. Paris, Amsterdam, Istanbul and many other European cities can be reached from here – and, of course, vice versa. Airlines fly to Nuremberg daily from many major cities in and around Germany. Once you have arrived at Nuremberg Airport, your onward journey is quick and convenient. Underground line U2 runs every 10 minutes and takes you from the airport to Nuremberg main station in the city centre in about 15 minutes.
Travelling by Flixbus
There are numerous Flixbus connections to Bayreuth, for example from Bamberg, Munich, Berlin and Amsterdam.
Travelling by long-distance coach
Besides ride-sharing, your own car, train and plane, Germany also has long-distance coaches. They are not only inexpensive but also an environmentally friendly and safe alternative. Bayreuth is connected to this network too. You can find information and tickets here:
