The highlights of Bayreuth’s city centre
This short walking loop is the easiest way to get to know Bayreuth’s city centre and its best-known sights on foot.
Route description
Starting at the main railway station, walk downhill towards the city centre. After crossing Luitpoldplatz you reach the Canale Grande. Turn right into Opernstraße to arrive at Sternplatz.
On the right you look onto the market square in Maximilianstraße. Walk to the Town Church through Kanzleistraße, which lies on the left. The lanes on the right lead back into Maximilianstraße. Turn right again here. Past the Old Palace you enter Richard-Wagner-Straße, then continue straight on to Haus Wahnfried. A small path behind the house leads straight into the Hofgarten as far as the New Palace. For an extra loop, take Ludwigstraße and turn right into Friedrichstraße to return to the pedestrian zone.
